Estabrook Dam Removal & Dam Art

The 81-year-old Eastabrook Dam was demolished in 2018 after 10 years of contentious disputes over repairing or removing the dam. The dam was originally constructed in 1937 for recreational purposes. Removing the dam has improved water quality and watercourses on the Milwaukee River and helped safeguard homes from flood risk. Native aquatic plants and the fish population are also rebounding.

Local artist Tom Queoff used dam remnants to create a public art installation located along the Westabrook Trail on the opposite side of Estabrook Park.
