In 2009, RRF purchased the 2.8-acre Wheelhouse property located on the Milwaukee River on the city’s east side that included the abandoned, former Wheelhouse restaurant.
After tearing down the long-vacant restaurant, RRF restored the once blighted urban riverfront to preserve green space and increase shoreline stabilization and floodplain protection.
Today, the riverfront park provides
a habitat for endangered species, along with access to the Beer Line Trail, which connects to the Oak Leaf Trail on the river’s east corridor.
